Erika Slezak was born Erika Alma Hermina Slezak on August 5, 1946, in Hollywood, California. She is the daughter of Johanna "Kaasi" Van Rijn and Walter Slezak, and her heritage is Dutch, Austrian, Czech, and German-Jewish. Walter won a Tony for Best Actor in a Musical for "Fanny," and he appeared on "One Life to Live" as the godfather of Erika's character. Sadly, he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1983 at the age of 80. Slezak grew up with two siblings, Ingrid and Leo, in Greenwich, Connecticut, and she attended school at Convent of the Sacred Heart, Eden Hall in Philadelphia. When she was 17 years old, Erika became one of the youngest people accepted into the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She graduated in 1966, then she performed in plays in Chicago, Milwaukee, and Houston.

Career

In 1971, Slezak landed the role of Victoria "Viki" Lord on the soap opera "One Life to Live." She stayed on the show until it ended its run on ABC in 2012, then she reprised the role on the 2013 revival, which aired on The Online Network. "One Life to Live" earned Erika six Daytime Emmys and a "Soap Opera Digest" Award. In 1996, Slezak appeared in the TV movie "Full Circle," then she guest-starred on "Special Unit 2" (2001) and "The Resident" (2018). She co-starred withJeff Danielsin the 2019 film "Guest Artist," which was named Outstanding Feature Film at the Sacramento International Film Festival and Best Feature Film at the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival and SENE Film, Music and Art Festival. Erika guest-starred on "Blue Bloods" in 2019 and 2023, and she appeared in the Hallmark Channel movie "Next Stop, Christmas" in 2021.
